Early Life

Terry Eugene Bollea, who you might know as Hulk Hogan, was born on August 11, 1953 in Augusta, United States.

His dad, Pietro “Peter” Bollea, worked in construction and had Italian roots. His mom, Ruth V. Bollea, was from Scottish, French, and Panamanian backgrounds and took care of the home while also teaching dance.

When Terry was about one and a half years old, his family moved to Port Tampa, Florida.

When he was young, he played baseball in the Little League. He was so good that scouts from the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds were interested in him. Unfortunately, he got hurt, and that put an end to his baseball dreams.

When he was 16, he started watching professional wrestling. During high school, he really looked up to a wrestler named Dusty Rhodes, and he used to go to wrestling events at the Tampa Sportatorium quite often.

Career

Hulk Hogan started his wrestling career in 1977.

In 1979, a former champion named Terry Funk introduced Hogan to the owner of the wrestling company, Vincent J. McMahon. McMahon was impressed by Hogan’s charm and strong presence.

In 1982, McMahon took over the business from his father and wanted to make it popular across the whole country. He picked Hogan to be the main star because of his charm and how well people knew him.

During his first time with the company, Hogan became the champion five times. His first championship run lasted a really long time and is one of the longest in the company’s history.

Hogan made history by becoming the first wrestler to win two consecutive Royal Rumble matches, which happened in 1990 and 1991.

In 1993, Hogan left the company and joined a different one called World Championship Wrestling (WCW). There, he became the champion six times and had the longest championship reign in WCW history.

In 1996, he changed his character to a bad guy named “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan and led a group called the New World Order (NWO).

Hogan was a big part of a time when wrestling became really popular on TV, known as the “Monday Night Wars”.

He also was the main event of WCW’s biggest show, Starrcade, three times. One of these shows in 1997 made the most money ever for WCW.

Hogan returned to WWE in 2002 after being in WCW. He won the championship for the sixth time before leaving in 2003.

He was added to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. He joined another wrestling company called TNA in 2009.

In 2014, Hogan appeared on a WWE show to create excitement about their network.

Hogan was added back to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018. He showed up on WWE TV again in 2021 for a special episode.
