Early Life

When Phillip Heath was in Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, he was a leader and played the shooting guard position on the main basketball team.

He got an athletic scholarship to study business administration at the University of Denver. He also played as a shooting guard for the university’s Division I basketball team.

Career

Phil Heath began his bodybuilding journey in 2002.

In 2005, he became the champion of the NPC USA Championships, which allowed him to compete as an IFBB Pro.

In the following year, he achieved his first victories in two IFBB pro events: the Colorado Pro Championships and the New York Pro Championship.

In 2007, he came in fifth at the Arnold Classic. Even though he could have entered the 2007 Mr. Olympia contest, he chose not to, explaining that he wanted more time to improve.

He participated in his first Mr. Olympia competition in 2008 and finished in third place, making him the first newcomer to reach the top three since Flex Wheeler in 1993.
