Virender Sehwag was born on October 20, 1978, in Delhi, India. He grew up in a middle-class family and started playing cricket at a young age. Sehwag attended Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi, where he studied for a degree in history.

He made his debut for the Delhi cricket team in 1997 and quickly established himself as one of the leading batsmen in the country.

In 1999, he made his debut for the Indian national team and went on to become one of the most successful batsmen in the history of Indian cricket.


Virender Sehwag is considered one of the best cricket openers and batsmen of his time. He played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL and represented Delhi and Haryana in Indian domestic cricket. He started playing One Day Internationals in 1999 and joined the Indian Test side in 2001.

In April 2009, Sehwag became the first Indian to receive the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World award for his outstanding performance in 2008. He retained the award in 2009 as well.
